I love that he was able to do the World's Fair in London, and travel all over the US and Canada preaching his common-sense approach to surviving as independent, self reliant persons in a world of whites. The social & human costs & benefits, the blinded vision (willful or otherwise) to what is occurring, the forces & structures that created both human beneficiaries, & underdogs (for lack of a better term), & those who work to keep such systems functioning, are all touched on as old problems updated & made new. I did not need 100 pages of internal school politics. Josiah defies national boundaries, and he fits no category. "The Road to Dawn" is a biography about Josiah Henson, who lived from 1789 to 1883.
