The campground is small and relatively quiet near the hills and a lake. The sites were level and bathrooms were very clean and well-maintained. The tent site we had was enormous. The proprietors were very friendly and very helpful for a couple of maintenance issues that we needed taken care of. They also have a small swimming pool perfect for keeping the kids entertained. Even when we arrived at our campsite, the thought of checking out and finding a hotel in Rapid City did cross our minds. And of course, we were placed in the tent site that is literally 150 feet away from Highway 385. They don't have the largest privately-owned campground ever, but they do their best to make sure everything they are able to offer is top notch. We offer full and partial pull-through RV sites, camping cabins and tent sites, as well as a heated outdoor pool, clean restrooms and showers, a camping store, coin-operated laundry, free Wi-Fi, and an on-site dump station. Rapid City is very close and so you are never very far from all the amenities that you need. In June 2018, we stayed in our at Black Hills Whispering Pines in Silver City, SD.

Although we didn't use the pool, many of the campers were enjoying it. The onsite shower house and restroom facility was clean and the shower stalls were in great shape.

We are just west of Rapid City between Deadwood and Keystone off of SD Highway 385.

I do have to say Harley and Lisa are two very accommodating and welcoming people.

But being a holiday weekend, we would have been looking for a needle in a haystack when it came to finding any hotel room at last second. It didn't appear there were any other available tent-sites otherwise I would have requested to be moved right away. So if we do decide to come back to Whispering Pines, we will make sure we book a cabin that is as far from the highway as possible. The Whispering Pines Campground is centrally located to all Black Hills attractions.

Harley helped me locate a tow company, gave directions and then was kind enough to allow my wife and 5 grand-kids to occupy space while I attended to the transportation problem which included getting the RV towed into town and obtaining a rental car to rescue my family - Harley keep the store/lounge are open past the normal hours to make sure they were attended to- All with a smile on his face and genuine kindness in his heart -- THANK YOUYes, pets are typically allowed, but it's always best to call ahead to confirm. They have a real nice country store with all the basics campers need such as emergency supplies, some groceries, firewood, and ice. Conveniently located restaurants include Sugar Shack, The Circle B Ranch Chuckwagon Suppers and Western Music Show, and Trout Haven Resort Saloon/Cafe.We didn't actually stay at the campground- our RV broke down and we coasted into their driveway- Owners Harley & Lisa could not have been nicer and more helpful to a bus load of strangers. But on those extremely rare occasions when we camp, we do prefer privately-owned campgrounds as there are extra amenities and services you will not find at a national forest campground. The owners are friendly and helpful. In addition the owners operate a general store was a wide variety of normal sundries and other things you might need while you are staying. Up the road near Silver Springs is an excellent put in point for canoeing and kayaking on the local lake and fishing if you need to.
